I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference”
Who We Are
Two Roads Academy (TRA) is an approved therapeutic independent school located in Colchester, Vermont, serving upper middle and high school students, ages 14-21. While we are approved to serve students ages 10-21 (Grades 5-12), at this time, TRA is focused on serving students in Grade 8-12; this allows for more targeted academic instruction, and tailored social skills programming for students. TRA is approved to serve students in all disability categories except developmental delay.
We are an inclusive program available to learners of differing abilities, disabilities, diagnoses and genders. TRA offers small group instruction with the ability to differentiate and individualize based on student need. We provide a developmentally appropriate, therapeutic learning environment for students whose needs cannot be met in their home schools.
Students are referred to TRA from their sending school; with student teams being welcome to submit an enrollment application at any time, either electronically or by mail. TRA has a rolling enrollment process, contingent on openings. Enrollment in TRA is voluntary, with our enrolling students who are willing to engage in treatment and who have some interest in engaging in the outdoor component of programming.
TRA has licensed Special Educators on staff and partners with LEA’s to serve students who have an Individualized Education Plan. We also serve students who are on 504 Plans or for whom, otherwise, the general education setting is not the best fit.

Our Purpose:
The purpose of Two Roads Academy is to provide a safe, inclusive and educational environment for all students, and staff, which fosters social and emotional well-being.
Our Philosophy
All Students can achieve their full potential and become successful and valuable members of society. When a student’s needs cannot be met by the environment in the public school, some time in a more supported, therapeutic, evidence based learning environment can close the gaps, help them establish skills they need, and help them reach a place in their growth that allows for reintegration with their school community.
Our Mission
To provide a developmentally appropriate, therapeutic, and enriching alternative learning environment when indicated by their needs.
To discover and make best use of each student's strengths and passions in designing and guiding their personalized learning plans.
To teach and develop community centered skills necessary for each student to thrive in today's society.
To facilitate and design for re-integration to the sending school.
The Three Pillars
At Two Roads Academy our work is supported by an integration of three primary approaches to learning that we have termed our three pillars. Each of these pillars is an effective and evidence based approach to learning and behavior change. When combined, they become a powerful foundation for sustainable growth and learning.

Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Students
All students need a safe and supportive school environment to progress academically and developmentally. Many questions arise for students and school staff when considering the best support for transgender and gender nonconforming students.
